The consumer durable industry consists of durable goods and appliances for domestic use such as televisions, refrigerators, air conditioners and washing machines. Emerging trends such as digitization, the Internet of Things (IoT), premiumization and energy efficiency have sparked a technological transformation across the industry, driving cutting-edge innovations in these products.

This transformation introduces new electric design challenges, requiring engineers to deliver:

  • Higher power factors and premium energy efficiency
  • Complex electronics control and IoT integration
  • Higher energy density to enable better aesthetics/product premiumization
  • Lower vibration & noise with increase in durability
Designing these new energy efficient and cost-effective electric machines introduces a unique multiphysics challenge, requiring precise attribute balancing across electromagnetic, thermal, noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) and structures. These attributes must be integrated to ensure efficient and robust electric machine development.

This webinar showcases the various design obstacles for developing next-generation electric machines for the appliance industry. We will address how these issues can be tackled using Ansys’ multiphysics simulation platform, which enables engineers to design motors for real-world operating conditions.
